God Grew Tired of Cheesy Films….

….so He inspired some folks to produce one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. So, stop whatever you are doing right now, and go rent “God Grew Tired of Us.” It is the inspirational story of a bunch of Sudanese boys who escaped the Islamic genocide of Christians in southern Sudan. They made a grueling journey across the desert when they were young boys and spent the rest of their childhood in refugee camps. None of the boys have seen their families since they were little, and many of their families have been brutally murdered during the ongoing Muslim jihad. Now that the boys are grown, the world is trying to figure out to do with them because they cannot safely return to their homeland, and life in the refugee camps offers no future for them. A number of the boys have been chosen to come live in the U.S. to work and to finish their education, and “God Grew Tired of Us” follows several of them during their first few years in America.
This film aroused so many emotions in me when I watched it. It made me angry that the world has stood by and done nothing as the Muslim jihad continues. It mad me cry that these young men are faced with the reality that their families and homeland have been decimated and are forced to live as strangers in a very strange land. It made me feel a deep joy as I watched them adapt to American culture with innocent and open hearts. The first time they all try to go up an escalator in the airport is hysterical. Anyway, all I can really say is GO WATCH THIS FILM!
(There is a similar documentary to this one called “The Lost Boys of the Sudan,” but “God Grew Tired of Us” is considerably better)

It's about time for a new post, eh? You'd think you have a real job or something.

Your fans adore and miss you.

Well, since you're obviously too busy preparing a sermon to offer a new post, I'll go ahead and respond to this one.

We finally saw "God Grew Tired..." Awesome film. I wish I would've been forced to watch films like that in Youth Group rather than "The Apple [Frickin'] Dumplin' Gang" (although Tim Conway is HIGHlarious!!?) Seriously, I might've turned out to be a better youth.

Watch this film, ya'll. It's amazing what's going on in the world that we'd never know from watching CNN or Fox News. God's at work.

Yeah, sorry about the lack of emails. A buddy of mine emailed me and said "God grew tired of no new posts." Fair enough...

I had the same reaction when I watched this film. I thought, what a great movie to show a youth group or other church group. While most youth groups end up showing Christian popcorn movies like "The Ultimate Gift" or "Left Behind," I think they would be much better served by showing inspiring films like this one or like "Amazing Grace" that have so much more depth.

This is an old post, but I wanted to comment on it because I now have some first hand contact with Sudaneze refugees. Here in Cairo, I am required to do a service project, so every Tuesday I got to a Christian school in downtown Cairo called St. Andrews, where many Sudaneze refugees attend. There are several thousand here in Cairo. They are basically a lower class and Egyptians have racist feelings toward them. It is vital that they get an education in order to get a job, and maybe even leave the country. From a Christian perspective, I get a little sad because I suspect that in a culture that discourages Christianity, many have lost their faith (this is just a guess though).
I work with children. Last week I taught multiplacation. I also work with adults by having English conversation with them. Last week I met a very interesting young Sudaneze man who had already finished school and was working as a janitor at the school. He was an artist and a Christian and quite smart. I doubt he will ever break out of his class as long as he is here in Egypt.
Just some short stories I thought you would be interested in. I've never scene this film, but I want to now. I'm sure I'll have more stories when I get home.
